Monumento Rizal: Taller than you think.

In the 1960’s, a metal extension was placed onto the Rizal Monument, but such change proved to be unpopular so eventually, the monument’s original design was retained. The monument with the original design was unveiled December 30, 1913, Rizal’s 17th Death Anniversary.

The name Luneta originated from the word lunette; the park was said to have the shape of a half moon in Spanish times. The site had witnessed a lot of historical events like the execution of the GOMBURZA in February 17, 1872, the 3 martyr priests. The Monument is now facing the Kilometer Zero Marker.
